the latest project for the summer was to build and make a outside dining - cooking area
this was started last week after 2 years in the making and gaining enough wood for the project as we wanted to go down the decking route
the start of the job was to replace the boundary fence after the last one was flattened in the Christmas storms [ i had to buy the boarding for this as the faced side would be on our neighbors side ]
this was completed and the uprights for the decking was made on the Saturday then came the fun part of de nailing meters and meters of old timbers i had obtained when a portacabbin was given to me last year which was dismantled and anything decent or usable was saved
after this a well earned tea break while i worked out how to install the water tanks under the decking and if they would fit ?
luckily after a little choice words and a hand from the neighbor to get the tanks in to place the tanks fitted nice and snug - these tanks will be part of our rainwater harvesting system for out soon to be pollytunnels one of these is a milk tank from the local farm when it turned from dairy to beef cattle and the other is from a local food manufacturing company
a day was spent on making and fitting beams and still denailing and selecting the best beams for the job
after this came to the pallet dismantling grrr i do love making things of pallets although hate the monotonous denailing process but this is where the decking soon started to look like something proper as i did have thoughts and concerns if the pallets would be strong enough for decking without being springy thankfully they are solid and give a seaside look to the build with a good grip - the pallets are obtained from local builders who usually just skip them once done with
any off cuts from my projects are used to heat the house and for hot water
at the mo ime still stripping pallets for the remainder of the deck
this project is still in progress and i will update as we get to different stages
thanks for reading
